"Berkeley Springs Pledge"
As West Virginia begins to open up, and as visitors come to our state to get out and experience the wild and wonderful nature of our state and the historic spa town of Berkeley Springs, many might be wondering what we are doing to keep the community and guests safe. For your protection we have these Guidelines that the businesses of our small town have been advised to follow to ensure, that while you enjoy a visit to our town, it is done safely. Berkeley Springs Cottage Rentals has pledged to follow these to provide a safe experience for all guests. These guidelines are listed below. Thank you.
The state leadership is making plans for businesses to reopen with guidelines throughout West Virginia in the weeks and months to come. The business community requests your support to responsibly reopen establishments when authorized and when the time is right for your business. We need you to start planning and preparing for reopening. We have brought together members from the business community to provide guidelines for our businesses to safely reopen.
We are requesting you to rise to the occasion and implement the highest of standards needed to keep our staff, customers and the public safe to operate under the new normal of COVID-19. Listed below are some guidelines we strongly encourage you to implement:
Daily Owner / Management / Staff Requirements for All Business that Desire to Re-open:
· Note: these requirements exceed the standard and are not being practiced by mission essential businesses that have remained open in Morgan County.
· Signs will be posted at the entrance areas informing patrons that establishments will not provide services to anyone that presents any symptoms of COVID-19.
· Workers will be screened and evaluated daily to ensure they have no symptoms of COVID-19 to include the following:
o Elevated temperature, cough or shortness of breath.
o Employees who are sick will be expected to stay at home or will be sent home.
· Report any symptoms of illness to supervisor.
· Politely screen customers with basic questions about COVID-19 symptoms and prohibit services if symptoms are present:
o Have you had a cough?
o Have you had a fever?
o Have you been around anyone exhibiting these symptoms within the last 14 days?
o Are you living with anyone who is sick or quarantined?
· Staff must sanitize hands with soap and / or hand sanitizer frequently.
· Provide hand sanitizer for use by patrons.
· Implement daily cleaning and sanitation standards to include the following cleaning requirements:
o Thoroughly detail, clean, and sanitize business facility prior to resuming services.
o Routine cleaning of frequently touched surfaces (tables, doorknobs, table condiments, chairs, remotes, desks, light switches, handles, toilets, faucets, sinks, phones, etc)
o Clean and sanitize restrooms regularly, check restrooms based on frequency of use, and ensure adequate supply of soap and paper towels at all times.
· Staff members wear face coverings and sanitize hands after each interaction with customer.
· Provide training on personal protective equipment and cleaning requirements based on CDC guidelines (see exhibit A).
· Maintain social distancing.
· Where practicable, physical barriers such as partitions or Plexiglas at registers or help desks should be used.
· Establish one-way aisles and traffic patterns for social distancing wherever possible.
· Designated smoking areas. Employers will identify and mark a designated smoking area and inform employees of social distancing procedures for smoke breaks.
· If PPE gear is needed or required, implement a policy for your business and inform your staff on washing PPE gear or discarding.
· Have storage bags available and a designated storage area if customers leave PPE and store until the end of the day before discarding.
Additional Guidelines for Lodging Establishments:
· Implement Daily Owner / Management / Staff Requirements.
· Politely screen customers with basic questions about COVID-19, decline reservations if they have those symptoms.
· Do not shake dirty laundry.
· Launder (with warmest possible water) all linens and bedding after each reservation.
· Clean and disinfect clothes hampers.
· Clean soft surfaces such as carpeted floors, rugs and drapes with soap and water or appropriate cleaners.
· Drain hot tubs, thoroughly clean and refill after each reservation.
· Consider putting a wipeable cover on electronics.
· Train workers and housekeeping staff to protect themselves and enforce the standards needed to prevent the spread of germs when cleaning, washing laundry and trash pick-up.
· Remove all unnecessary items (magazines, newspapers, service menus and any other unnecessary paper products / décor).
Additional Guidelines for Restaurant Establishments:
· Implement Daily Owner / Management / Staff Requirements.
· Limit occupancy to 50% of seating capacity for indoor dining.
· No more than ten (10) patrons should be allowed in the facility per 500 square feet of public space. In calculating the total number of public space square feet, such calculation shall include waiting and bar areas, if any, but shall not include hallways, restrooms, and spaces closed to patrons.
· Space tables 6 feet apart.
· Limit seating to 6 per table.
· Space patrons at bar or counter seating at least 6 feet apart.
· Use social distancing standards in waiting areas.
· Whenever possible, establish outdoor dining with social distancing standards.
· Between diners, clean and sanitize table condiments, digital ordering devices, tabletops, chairs and commonly touched areas.
· Used rolled silverware and eliminate table presets.
· Use disposable paper menus or clean and sanitize reusable menus between each use by patron.
· Stagger shifts, breaks and meals to maintain social distancing.
· Temporarily suspend large events and mass gatherings of more than 50 persons to include conferences, concerts, sporting events, weddings, and other types of assemblies.
· Social distancing guidelines must be implemented for small gatherings.
Additional Guidelines for Retail Establishments:
· Implement Daily Owner / Management / Staff Requirements.
· Stagger shifts, breaks, and meals to maintain social distancing.
· Limiting the number of patrons inside the store to 50% of store capacity occupancy or eight (8) patrons per 1,000 square feet.
· Recommend customers wear face coverings inside stores.
· Consider shopping hours for the elderly, medically vulnerable and health care workers.
· Establish one-way aisles and traffic patterns for social distancing wherever possible.
· Increase curbside, pickup, and delivery service options.
· Prompt customers regarding the importance of social distancing.
· Consider temporarily closing dressing rooms and not accepting returns.
Additional Guidelines for Cosmetology, Barbers and Spas:
· Implement Daily Owner / Management / Staff Requirements.
· Limit customers in shops / salons / spas:
· Consider seeing clients by appointment only.
· Consider telephonic or online scheduling.
· Limit the number of people in waiting area of salon / shop / spa.
· Maintain social distancing:
· Spacing between people should be at least 6 feet at all times (excluding staff member providing services to client).
· Consider additional spacing between booths, divider shields, and / or alternate work schedules.
· Wear face coverings at all times.
· Request clients wear face coverings.
· Disinfect all surfaces, tools and linens before opening.
· Maintain regular disinfections of all tools, shampoo bowls, pedicure bowls, workstations, treatment rooms and restrooms.
· Remove all unnecessary items (magazines, newspapers, service menus and any other unnecessary paper products / décor).
Additional Guidelines for Events and Mass Gatherings:
· Implement Daily Owner / Management / Staff Requirements.
· Temporarily suspend large events and mass gatherings of more than 50 persons to include conferences, festivals, parades, concerts, sporting events, weddings, and other types of assemblies.
